Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Description

SEO is more than a buzz word. It often means profit or failure for a business. This two-day course is designed primarily for web designers and developers but is also highly useful to the tech savvy small business owner. While this course is reading intensive (~400 pages) it is expected that students will be putting their learning to work by optimizing their own site(s) as a part of this class.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Apply basic best-practices of site design and content selection to improve site SEO
  • Utilize relevant information sources on a regular basis to stay current on SEO changes and trends
  • Apply basic SEO metrics tools to routinely analyze their site
  • Effectively interpret SEO metrics and determine best strategies for improvement

Prerequisites

Students should be comfortable with web technology. The Intro to Web Design course is a minimum prerequisite. Be prepared for approximately 400 pages of reading for this course.

How long does the class take?

2 days (includes only preparation of SEO plan - not implementation)

Exercises

The exercises for this course will expect the student to prepare an SEO plan for their website. The SEO plan will be implemented over a 3-month period (outside of class time).
