MediaWiki for Designers and Administrators
Description
MediaWiki, made popular in sites like Wikipedia, has been at the forefront of the Web 2.0 generation. Now most web hosts provide MediaWiki as an installable application making it accessible to anyone wanting to host a wiki.
This course is designed for those who will be web designers, power users, or administrators of a wiki. It is not intended for the casual user of Wikipedia.
The course is divided into two days. The first is for all users (designers and administrators). The second day is intended only for administrators who will be hosting MediaWiki on their own servers.
Prerequisites
Prior to taking MediaWiki you should take a general study of internet technology such as Introduction to Web Design.
How long does the class take?

Software Required
Most students will use a hosted service through their web site host. Most hosts will provide MediaWiki as an installable application. If you have not yet installed MediaWiki we suggest you wait until you have begun the course to do the installation. This helps assure you get the configuration correct the first time.
MediaWiki is a server technology. You can run this software from your home computer but be sure you check all of the prerequisites on the MediaWiki web site before hand.
