Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
Description
This course takes you into the basics of HTML, XHTML, and CSS. These three languages are reasonably easy to learn and are the foundation of web design and development. While it is possible to design web sites using WYSIWYG editors such as Dreamweaver and NVU without knowing these languages, your skills and speed will be greatly improved if you have a basic understanding of these essential languages.
Prerequisites
You should have the equivalent of the Basic Web Design certificate before this course. You should have a solid understanding of the HTML/xHTML and CSS relationship. I would recommend the Basic Web Languages course before diving deeper into CSS.
How long does the class take?
2 days
Software Required
You could write CSS in notepad on Windows. But you wouldn't be very happy. Most of you will be using Dreamweaver but you will find it is not always the most convenient for writing large amounts of CSS. You may want to consider:
Mac
- BBedit by Bare Bones.
- You can also do a pretty good job with TextWrangler, BBedit's free sibling. It lacks some of the features of BBedit but will get you started.
Windows
- NotepadPad++.
- RapisCSS 2008 or HTMLPad both by Blumentals. HTMLPad combines CSS (x)HTML and JavaScript and is worth the extra $5 or so.
Firefox
Also, don't forget the Firefox extension Web Developer. This is just an amazingly handy little set of tools.
